True story. D’:
I’m 17, I’ve got pancreatitis (which is mostly an adult condition), and no peds doctors will touch me because they don’t know what to do, but all the adult doctors are like “PEDS. TOO YOUNG.” I’ve been rejected but too many doctors.
I was seen at Gt. Ormond St., but when (after brain scans, tumor scares etc.) we worked out I probably had POTS (which is a known relation to my diagnosis of Ehler’s Danlos) they said they couldn’t do anything. The only consultant they could refer me to wasn’t allowed to test me until I was 18 (although my body wasn’t likely to change in the next two years).
Result: I suffered unnecessarily with symptoms caused by low blood pressure for two years, and am trying now trying to get them under control while living on my own at uni…
